Meet  Serene

I love to sew. I grew up in Junction City, Oregon and was the youngest of four and the only girl. My sewing career started when I was when I was about ten, when I learned how to sew in the Brownies – the first step of Girl Scouts. I’ve been sewing ever since.

As a means of creating income, I started sewing when my son was born.  I wanted to be able to work at home with my son, and sewing seemed like a great option for me. I started making childrens clothes, naturally dyed with embroidery.

Soon I evolved into making women’s and men’s clothes.  Today, Blessed Lotus is a thriving business located in the Applegate Valley, Oregon.   I work in a blessed sewing space on my property that has plenty of space, natural light and a great view of the forest.

My son is 17 and I have a loving partner and have supported every aspect of my business. I am truly blessed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I choose the fabric that I do?

I love working with Natural fibers, especially Hemp.  I want to make wise choices and support Mother Earth while growing and running this business.

How do you dye your clothes?

Blessed Lotus clothes are dyed in a top loading washing machine.  I buy fabric in natural, design it, cut it, sew it and then dye in the washer.  I use biodegradable dyes and really enjoy the dying process.  Its a whole other kind of art!

What inspires your styles?

Nature is a big inspiration for me as I love to spend plenty of time outdoors. Also, I really like to be comfortable in the clothes I wear and that shows up in my designs.  I like to dance so I  have some dance inspired looks as well.

Do you make everything yourself?

I design, cut, sew and dye most of the clothes myself.  But over the last couple years I have a regular cutter/sewer at my house helping me 1-2 days a week. Somehow I seem to attract the most amazing people to work with and am eternally grateful for the help.
